Over time, the outlets and switches in a home or business may need to be replaced or updated. Older outlets and switches may no longer provide the level of safety you need for your home, family, or commercial facility. When an outlet is overloaded, it poses a risk to the structure and may trip a breaker frequently, indicating a more fundamental problem. Outlets can degrade over time and require replacement. Home and commercial building design comes into play, with older outlets and switches lacking the features of modern, smart systems with remote access controls.
GFCI Outlets, Outdoor Outlets, & Switches
A residential or commercial property may have been built before Texas adopted the 2020 NEC (National Electric Code) code. All electrical work must be installed in conformance with current code. Older facilities should undergo a risk assessment procedure to identify any existing problems that should be corrected, including outlets and switches. It takes time for a new code to be implemented, and not all electricians are up to date on the changes — we are.
At Paul Richard Electric, we pride ourselves at remaining at the forefront of the industry and performing all outlet and switch replacements to reflect these requirements. The NEC code requires all residential outlets to be supplied by a branch circuit, with GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) protection. This requirement is not yet implemented, but if you are planning to install a hot tub or a custom outdoor lighting system, it makes sense that your electrician performs the work with the latest requirements. At Paul Richard Electric, we perform all electrical work with the most stringent safety protocols, and to code.
